The goal of our mathematics program is to provide our students with the skills and knowledge, they will need to succeed in college and beyond. We seek to inspire our students to pursue advanced math courses and provide them with the foundation needed to be successful in advanced math studies.
Our math curriculum is rooted in the following core beliefs about quality math instruction.
The students learn the best when they solve problems that spark their curiosity, require them to make connections between concepts and real-world scenarios.
We believe that knowing “how” to compute a problem is not enough; students must also know “why” mathematical procedures and concepts exist
It is important to train students in creating fluency of math vocabulary to create math sentence from the math word problems
We believe that the process of communicating their mathematical thinking helps students solidify their learning and helps teachers assess student understanding
We believe that practice and feedback are essential to developing students’ conceptual understanding and fluency. Hence daily practice is essential for mastery of concepts
This course is designed to emphasize the study of multiple representations of linear and non-linear functions. It includes mathematical concepts for working with rational numbers, various expressions, analyzing and solving linear equations and inequalities, data analysis, probability, statistics, and polynomials. The topics covered include, but are not limited to: Graphs and Functions, Systems of Equations, Quadratics, Laws of Exponents, and Factoring Binomial and Polynomial Expressions. Students will use hands-on materials and calculators when needed in solving problems where the algebra concepts are applied. They will complete the course through live instruction and challenging real-world problems. The class includes concept instruction, practice, homework review, and homework assignments.
There are no classes on September 5–7, November 23–29, and December 21–January 3.
