The National Council of Mathematics Teachers identified a common set of 10 math standards that describe the growth of mathematical knowledge across grades Prek-12. What all children need to know about math can be divided into 10 areas or “strands.”
Five of these strands identify math content children should learn.
Numbers & Operations
Algebra
Geometry
Measurement
Data Analysis & Probability
The other five strands identify ways children will acquire and apply math content.
Problem Solving
Reasoning & Proof
Communication
Connections
Representations
We emphasize on all the ten strands of math in our programs
About Our Online Math Tutors
Our math tutors know exactly how the brain develops and learns mathematics in a natural progression. We help the student by making them
Understand the concept
Comprehensive mathematical concepts, operations, and relations–knowing what mathematical symbols, diagrams, and procedures mean.
Computing the problem
Carrying out mathematical procedures, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers flexibility, accurately, efficiently, and appropriately.
Applying
Being able to formulate problems mathematically and to devise strategies for solving them using concepts and procedures appropriately.
Reasoning
Using logic to explain and justify a solution to a problem or to extend from something known to something less known
Engaging
Seeing mathematics as sensible, useful, and doable if you work at it-and being willing to do the work.
The focus is on one concept at a time, building on that core knowledge so that when a new lesson is taught at school, your child can finally feel confident in his or her ability to adapt and learn.
The progression in different levels of math is totally dependent on the skills of the student. Students love our math worksheets as they are based on interesting word problems and are not repetitive. All the five concepts are taught in all grades from Kinder to 12
Math Acceleration Exams (AE/CBE)
In middle school students get an opportunity to learn higher grade math by passing Acceleration Credit By Exam for next grade level math. The students entering 6th grade can learn grade 7 math by passing the grade 6 math during the preceding summer. The testing window is in April/May or early August.
We prepare the kids for CBE tests and the workshops start from January onwards.
If your child is not performing well at school in math or if you are looking for a challenging math curriculum for your child, then look no further. SMARTS would love to help you!
