COVID-19 Precautions taken by SMARTS

Our Health & Safety Measures

  • Daily facility fogging with hospital-grade solution
  • All teachers and staff wear masks
  • Temperature checks every day before entry
  • Consistent disinfecting and cleaning of all classrooms, objects and common areas!

The Precautions taken by SMARTS are aligned to the CDC guidelines for Child Care and Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

SMARTS is committed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by following preventive actions. These actions are called non-pharmaceutical interventions or NPIs, and are considered of utmost importance for child care programs that remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are three different types of NPIs that we will consider:

  1. Personal NPIs: First we have personal NPIs, which are those actions that each person can do to prevent the spread of COVID-19, highlighted by staying home when sick, proper handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes, wearing masks.
  2. Environmental NPIs: Second, we have environmental NPIs, which represent routine and intensified surface cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing efforts.
  3. Community NPIs. Third, we have community NPIs, which are policies and strategies that child care centers and communities put into place to help slow the spread of illness, and are highlighted in this situation by social distancing strategies, maintaining an adequate ratio of staff to children, and modifying drop off and pick up procedures.

Personal NPI

1.    Kids with  fever, or cough  or cold needs to stay home

2.    Wearing masks covering your mouth and nose.

3.    Every Child will be monitored with no touch thermometer for taking temperature.

4.    Washing hands for 20 seconds: before and after touching your face, eating, activity and whenever deemed necessary by the staff

5.    No food sharing and refrigeration in the facility.

6.    No activity involving food would be held like celebrating birthdays or young chefs activity

7.    Daily reinforcement of the safety practices and involving campers in following the guidelines

8.     There will be daily incentives and rewards for the kids following all the safety rules. e.g. Incentives – campers with max smartsbucks will get to go first to play in any games played

Rewards: Each child will start with ten SMARTSbucks. 5000 smartbucks =$1 (no cash value)

    Environmental NPI

1. All the facility will be cleaned and sanitized daily.

2. All the staff would be wearing gloves

3. The process would be followed for cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing the surfaces

Routine cleaning targets frequently touched surfaces, including, tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, sinks and so on.

4. All the CDC guidelines would be followed to clean disinfect and sanitize porous and non-porous surfaces.

5. Toys and games would be cleaned and put away if used once. Each toy would cleaned, sanitized and would not be allowed to be shared between kids.

6. No toys or devices from outside would be allowed to be brought in. All the supplies and games etc. besides personal food would not be allowed inside the facility

Community NPI

1. Curbside drop off the kids. Each Child will be walked in by a teacher and would need to sanitize hands and should have mask on. Child’s shoes will be sanitized before walking inside the classroom.

2. Reduced capacity utilization allowed to practice social distancing as per CDC/State recommendations.

3. Assigning individual spots with clear taped marking for each child. Each child is expected to stay within their marked area and will not be allowed to crowd game room, washroom or to come close to each other at any time.

4. SMARTS will provide Individual supplies with book box, worksheets. Only sack lunch, water bottle and snacks allowed from home. Microwave can be used.

5. There will be limited to no group interaction among kids to maintain social interaction

6. Sick Children and staff will be required to stay home. It is pertinent that if the child becomes sick they would be required to leave the premises immediately.

7. No visitors would be allowed within the facility and we would keep the centers locked

8. Ask parents/guardians to take their child’s temperature either before coming to the facility or upon arrival at the facility. Upon their arrival, stand at least 6 feet away from the parent/guardian and child.

▪ Ask the parent/guardian to confirm that the child does not have fever, shortness of breath or cough.

▪ Make a visual inspection of the child for signs of illness which could include flushed cheeks, rapid breathing or difficulty breathing (without recent physical activity), fatigue, or extreme fussiness.

For Prevention of COVID

Personal NPIs are everyday preventative actions and include staying at home when sick or exposed to someone who is sick, covering coughs and sneezes, wearing face coverings, and proper handwashing or sanitizing.

Environmental NPIs include routine and intensified surface cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing efforts for reducing the spread, as well as responding quickly if someone becomes sick.

Community NPIs are policies and strategies that are put in place by the child care program to slow the spread of illness, and includes social distancing, modifying classes, activities and drop off/pick up procedures, as well as accommodating for staffing, monitoring access to the facility, and responding to the return of sick children and staff.
